The formation of the Rayman series.Part 1.
If I do something crookedly, then I’m sorry … I’m writing here in the first)
Although there was a video about Rayman’a, it is more supplemented and there will be the whole series.
The first part of the large cycle of large articles on the history of the Rayman franchise.
So, here I want to tell you about how Rayman was created, and how he reached such a state. You probably know about a lot.But you sometimes need to refresh memory. So, without long preludes, we begin!
History of the creation of the character:
The story begins with the young boy Michel Ansel, who lived during the start of our story in 1991 in France. Michelle had a gamepa -designer talent, and extravagant, crazy ideas, full of absurdity and genius flowed from his head with a stream. And so, it came when he was given the opportunity to create his perfect game, and the first thing Michel began to do when he had this opportunity was to naturally come up with the character for the main role. When he created a protagonist for his game, he did not bother much, and drew a hero whose body consists of numerical circles of different sizes and forms. These circles were connected by limbs, but the circle that depicted his head hung in the air, separately from the whole body.
Developing the character’s concept, Ansel added a few features to his hero: large eyes and nose, purple, like eggplant, with a white ring drawn in the middle, huge hands, legs dressed in yellow sneakers and three, similar to rabbit ears, huge hair-stars. The image was slightly more than funny, especially because of large eyes and strange limbs, they looked a little superfluous. The character was still nameless.
A little later, when the development of the future Title with the participation of this character began, he was invented by an early biography and name. The character of this was called Jimmy, and he was an ordinary 11-year-old boy, who managed to find a passage to the world of Crouping (in the original Hereitscool) in his compacter. A little later, Jim accidentally fell into this world, turning into this creature, and with his arrival in this world, everything seemed to come to life: stones, flowers, ancient monsters. Now Jim should save the steepness from villains and monsters.
A little later, this plot was canceled, and as for me, for the better.
Development on SNES:
The game was developed for the popular SNES console https://sistersitescasino.co.uk/casinos/hopa-casino/ – Super Nintendo Entertainment System for popular at that time (1991 (or 1992)). In the process of development, a lot had to be changed, for example, the protagonist: it was then that he received his real name: thanks to the software with the help of which the anniversary made the first part: Ray-Tracing), also Rayman lost his limbs. This decision was made in order to facilitate animation, moreover, it became a sort of “chip” of the entire franchise, because Rayman’s main ability is to throw his own fists a long distance.
The game on SNES was significantly different from what was shown to us in the final version: it was another HUD (indicator of lives, assembled objects, etc.D.), there was a much simpler graphics, other levels, a cooperative multiplayer was also available, in which the second player took under the control of Rayman’s friend and t.D.
A little later, when the game was almost ready, they decided to interrupt the development due to the imperfection of the graphics and because the game stupidly did not fit into the SNES cartridge, and the developers decided to wait with Raman for some time in order to continue the development on a more perfect console.
And this console became Atari, damn it to tear jaguar. Atari Jaguar is the last console that once belonging to the kings of the video game industry – Atari, a company that managed to rapidly collapse in the eighties only thanks to two games (Port Pakman on Atari 2600 and an emptilated E.T. on the same shitty 2600) and almost tore off the entire game industry. Fortunately, Nintendo, together with his drug addict, was corrected in 1985. Jaguar, released in 1993, was only an attempt to return atari glory and honor. And perhaps the guys from Atari could have succeeded if it had not been for PS1 and if Jaguar was not crooked.
A feature of Jaguar was that it had a 64-bit graphic processor, and it supported cartridges and CDs like that. So, Ubisoft can be understood, because then, in 1993, Jaguar seemed a good alternative to Snes.
The first build of Rayman on the “Jaguar” went somewhere in the early 1994, and it is only a test of an updated game of the game for a more advanced console. The build is a very early version of the “Pink Plant Woods” level, while Rayman has the ability of a helicopter from hair and a fist of helicopter. At the same time, the game at a very early stage of development: poor control, the early version of the interface (there is a slightly different health indicator, there is no indicator of the number of objects collected-the crystals of the “ting”, instead of it-the indicator of the killed enemies), the lack of music and sound effects, the game often flies out, the enemies cannot be hit (probably, this is duethe character and his animation, however, did not establish what will happen when interacting with Reaman) and t.D.
It is also worth noting that the next build, which Rayman’s fans managed to find not as early as the one that we discussed early.
Firstly, it is worth noting that the world “Dream Forest” is almost completed in this build, which is already not bad. But the rest of the game is completely not finished. Beta is full of bugs, glitches, also often flies away, and t.D.
Beta itself is different from the final version a lot in which: firstly, there is no sign from the level.
Secondly: on the map of the world, not Rayman wanders along it, followed by an anthonist, but an electricity is a creature that we free from cells in the final version.
Thirdly: the latest Dream Forest levels are not very similar to their final equivalents, moreover, the game does not have a whole level with a mini-boss Bzzit.
Fourthly: the game constantly plays the melody “First Steps”, even in the levels of the world “Band Land”.
The final version of the game was released on Atari Jaguar, September 1, 1995. The game has undergone significant changes in terms of graphics, gameplay, music and gameplay.
There was a big hype around the game: game magazines praised the game for the quality of graphics, animation and gameplay, calling the game “Interactive cartoon”.
Differences on different platforms:
Later, the game was reprinted to all popular, at that time platforms: PS1, PC, GBA, GBC, Sega Saturn, Nintendo Dsiware, Windows Mobile, there is also a canceled port on Sega 32x. All subsequent ports have updated the schedule, corrected management and slightly changed the levels.
For example, in the original version of the game on Atari Jaguar there are no several rear backgrounds, secret levels and animations. The music is also very distinguished in this version, it is very different from the one that we are used to hearing in other versions, it is more “electronic”, while in other versions the music is instrumental.
Versions on PS1, Saturn and DSI are almost identical, only thanks to the perfection of Saturn in technical terms of Rayman on Saturn looks slightly less “pixel”, and we can also see a slightly larger segment. The version of the Nintendo DSIWARE pocket console is distinguished only.
The PC version was released in 1996 under DOS, so you can play it only on the DosBox emulator. The game is almost no different from earlier versions, though only changed the position of some hiding places and phases of levels. Also, all tracks in the game were collected in the same way to save in one track, which interferes a little in enjoying with beautiful music. Well, the sounds are slightly changed and the graphics are simplified.
Versions for pocket consoles GBA and GBC are very different from each other. The GBA version is only a lightweight PC PC port, and the GBC version is much more interesting. The only thing that is common in this game with all other versions is the plot. The rest is a completely different game.
Firstly: the style and atmosphere are more reminiscent of Rayman 2, the game of which we are stuck later
.
Secondly, the levels: the levels are completely different, there is not a single level (besides a fight with a dark Rayman) taken from other versions.
So, I don’t know if Rayman 1 can be counted on the GBC port, because this is a completely different game.
I won’t be very ranting about the gameplay, because you all, my dear friends most likely played this wonderful game and know about all its charms: a chic cartoon graphics, perfect smooth control, thanks to which the character is pleasant to manipulate throughout the game space, the abundance of secret places and hiding places, which should take more time for the discovery of the players than to pass the main game. Also beautiful in the game music. For her it is worthuling to people such as Remi Gazel and Frederic Prados. These people created a wonderful soundtrack. And each of the notes of each melody sinks into memory, and it is it that actually “draws” the players into the gameplay and does not let go to the very end.
The game has only one minus: this is its difficulty. Due to the inexperience of the team in the creation of the games, the developers began to fill the game with increasingly and large number of traps, dangers and enemies, of which there are so many more than the end of the game that even just to pass the level, not collecting secrets to become very difficult. In addition, to pass the game, it is necessary to climb all levels along and across in order to open all secret places and break all the cells with electricians hidden in them – small creatures, in the collection of which the goal of the game is the goal of the game. Also, only by collecting all the electric tunes you can get to the last level with the final boss – Mr. Glass – the antagonist of the game.
Assessments of critics and additions:
And so the game is almost ideal, you just have to look at the assessments of critics: the game was very well perceived all over the world, and in the UK Rayman 1 was the best -selling game on PS1, overtaking such masterpieces as Tomb Raider 2 and Great Tourismo. Is it worth saying something else? Ah, yes, there were still additions to PC … well, ok!
The first addition was called “Rayman Gold” (coincidence?) In this DLC there were somewhere around 40 new levels, in no way related to each other, as well as a level editor. The next addition was called “Rayman Forever” – it contained the first part, Rayman Gold and Rayman by his fans – a separate game that consists of levels made by fans. There was also an addition called Rayman 100 New Levels – which contained an addition to Rayman Gold, Rayman by Hid Fans, the first part and new addition of Rayman 60 New Levels. There were also many other additions, but I’m too lazy to describe all this, since there are really a lot of them.
